For our Fall Festival, all of the classes learned a community folk dance, teachers too!
Attending the Association of Waldorf Music Educators’ Summer Pedagogy Intensive was a fantastic experience. While I have spent some time personally studying Waldorf principles, getting to work in-depth with master teachers was exciting and inspiring. One feature of the conference was the post-dinner discussion session, which was always opening with the specific question: “Why do we teach music.” Many teachers offered valuable insights, but one that stuck with me was simply: “Music is a part of us.” Understanding that the approach to music education must recognize the developmental level of the students, and thus influences curricula decisions, was an idea that I was familiar with, but the presentations and discussions made it that much more concrete and applicable.
